Cursor’s agent can search tweets and read profiles, timelines, replies, followers and trends through the hosted twitterapi.io MCP server at https://mcp.twitterapi.io/mcp. All 12 tools are read-only.

Option 1: the plugin

The plugin bundles the MCP server, a research skill (which tool to use for which question, search operators, citing tweets) and a rule that tells the agent to treat tweet content as data. Source and install instructions: github.com/kaitoInfra/twitterapi-io-cursor-plugin.

Option 2: add the server to mcp.json

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or to .cursor/mcp.json in a project:

Authenticate

Either way, pick one:
  • API key. Get a key on the dashboard, set it in the environment Cursor starts from, and restart Cursor:
  • OAuth. Leave the variable unset. The first time the agent calls a tool, Cursor shows a sign-in prompt for twitterapi.io.

Example prompts

  • “What are developers on X saying about Cursor this week? Cite the top tweets.”
  • “Summarize the replies to this tweet: (paste an x.com/…/status/… link).”
  • “Compare the follower counts and recent posting topics of @vercel and @netlify.”
Each tool call costs the same credits as the endpoint it calls; see Pricing.
